Description
The Church of St Mary is a church built in 1862 by E B Lamb. It is constructed of stone with a slate roof and has a cruciform shape, emphasizing a centralized design due to the spacious crossing. This crossing is wider than the aisleless nave and the small chancel, and it incorporates short transepts. A south porch is present, and the exterior features a complex arrangement of roofs. The pyramidal roof of the crossing starts at a lower level to accommodate its wider span and is interrupted by the rising transepts and a turret topped with a spirelet.
Inside, the nave and chancel have wooden roofs supported by transverse arches on stone corbels, collars, and purlins. The crossing features a complex roof structure of intersecting arches, allowing for pairs of tiny quatrefoil lights in each corner. Most windows are 3-light with trefoil heads and simple tracery under pointed arches, except for the low flat-arched windows in the nave.
