Description
Numbers 1 and 2 The Cottages are a pair of attached houses built around 1855 by William Butterfield as part of the estate for Viscount Downe of Baldersby Park. They are constructed from red brick in English bond and feature a 20th-century tile roof, showcasing a High Victorian style. The cottages are one and a half storeys tall with irregular window arrangements. The entrances are located on the left and right returns. On the ground floor, there are two three-light wooden casements and one single-light casement on the left, all with glazing bars and segmental brick arches. The first floor has two two-light wooden casements that rise as half-hipped dormers. The roof has a half-hipped gable, and a central stepped stack straddles the ridge, featuring tumbled-in brickwork.
