Description
The gates, overthrow, and gate piers located approximately 20 metres west of the Church of St. Andrew date from the early to mid-19th century. They feature rusticated ashlar piers and wrought-iron gates with an overthrow. The gate piers stand about 3 metres high and consist of a chamfered base, a rusticated pier, a fluted entablature, a deep cornice, and a rusticated ball finial on a stepped base. The gates have two leaves with bars, dog-bars topped with spear-head finials, and a lock rail. The overthrow includes a band of acanthus-leaf motifs with spear-head finials on the bars above. These gates are very similar to those depicted south of the church in T. D. Whitaker's "History and Antiquities of the Deanery of Craven," published in 1878.
