Description
Parsons Bridge is a footbridge built around 1774, located over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal in Kildwick. It is constructed from gritstone rubble with ashlar coping. The bridge features a single arch of basket form that spans both the canal and the south towpath. The flanking walls end in pilasters and are angled to create a wider approach to the bridge. The voussoirs are painted white, with an indicator marking the center of the canal. Additionally, there is a cast-iron plaque displaying the number "186" on each face. This bridge was significant as it connected the church with the vicarage and Kildwick Hall, serving as an important footway linking these parts of the settlement.
