Description
The Manor House is an early 18th-century house with later alterations, situated on the south side of Main Street in Carthorpe. It is constructed of rubblestone with red brick facing, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The main block is two storeys high and five bays wide, with three wider bays to the left and two narrower bays to the right. A two-storey, two-bay roughcast wing adjoins the house on the left-hand side. The ground floor features a rubblestone plinth with chamfered ashlar coping. A six-panel door is set within a Doric doorcase comprising half-columns, a frieze, and a dentilled cornice, located in the third bay. Most windows are 24-pane sashes with brick flat arches; the window above the door is an 18-pane sash. Horizontal bands mark the first and second floors. The house has shaped kneelers, stone coping, end stacks, and one stack to the ridge. The roughcast wing has two sashes with glazing bars on the ground floor and blocked openings above.
