Description
Hargill House is a house dated 1824 with a mid 19th-century wing, located in Burneston on the south side of Church Wynd. The building is constructed of red brick and features graduated stone slate and Welsh slate roofs. It has two storeys and four bays, with the right-hand cross wing being a mid 19th-century addition that projects forward and is gabled.
In the second bay, there is a six-panel door with an overlight that has radial glazing bars, set in a stone surround with plain consoles and a pediment. This door is flanked by small round-arched windows that have been inserted. The remaining windows are sash windows with glazing bars and stone sills, all set below flat brick arches. The house features dentilled eaves, a shaped kneeler, stone coping, and an end stack on the left side, along with two ridge stacks.
At the rear, there is a round-arched stair window and a kitchen wing. The mid 19th-century wing has a Welsh slate roof, while the other roofs are covered with graduated stone slates. Inside, the kitchen retains its original architraved fire surround, complete with a frieze and dentilled cornice.
