Description
The farm buildings at East Lodge Farm, built in 1862, are an industrial type complex made of red brick with dark red brick dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The large structure consists of three tall single-storey gabled ranges on the south side, with a taller two-storey barn extending from west to east at the rear. There is another wing at a right angle to the center of the barn. The south front features a board door with a basket-arched head at each end, and a large wagon opening with a basket-arched head in the center. Above this opening is a sundial and a stone tablet inscribed with 'GIS 1862'. Flanking the center are very large openings with basket-arched heads and gates, which served as entrances to covered foldyards. At the north end of the central gabled section, there is a tall tapered square chimney. The back range includes basket-arched doors, windows, and entrances, all with dark red brick quoins and heads. The roofs are hipped throughout. This complex is listed for its historical significance as a particularly unaltered example of industrial type farm buildings.
