Description

This house, located at Slingsby Walk, was built around 1786, and may contain elements of an earlier building. It was constructed by Lord Loughborough and is attributed to Carr of York. The building is two storeys high and has a central three-window bay with a pediment, flanked by recessed single-window bays and irregular one- and two-window wings. It has slated roofs and is built of stone ashlar with a parapet. A cornice extends over the five-window central section and the north wing. A first-floor sill band runs around the building. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars; those on the ground floor have arched recesses on each side of the central doorway and formerly over the entrance, and the flanking bays feature arched niches with recessed panels above. A pedimented stone porch, added in the early 20th century, leads to a doorway with a patterned fanlight and a panelled door. The interior has been altered, but retains the original staircase.
