Description
Mansfield Cottage, located at Mansfield House Mews, is a building dating from around 1788. It was originally constructed by Mrs. Wilks of the Granby as a theatre, which closed around 1830 and was later converted into two lodging houses. The building features a symmetrical facade with slightly recessed wings and a pedimented center, standing two storeys tall. The arrangement of windows is in a 2:3:2 pattern, and the structure is made of coursed squared grit stone. It has recessed sash windows with glazing bars, and the pediment includes a blind lunette window. The roof is stone slated with coped gables. Mansfield House has a Tuscan doorcase with a semi-elliptical head, a radial fanlight, and a panelled door, while the doorway of Mansfield Cottage has a plain surround, a fanlight, and a panelled door. The buildings at Nos 7 to 9 form a group with Nos 9A, 11, 12, and the Empress Hotel.
