Description
Brandstone Scar is a house dating from the mid-17th century, which was restored in the late 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with four windows on the first floor. The central entrance consists of a 20th-century glazed door set within a surround that has a roll-moulded chamfer and a shallow four-centred arch above a large lintel.
The windows on the ground floor include a five-light window on the left and a combination of a five-light and a two-light window on the right, with a narrow light in between. On the first floor, the windows from left to right consist of three lights, three lights, three lights, and two lights. The building features concave moulding on the continuous hoodmoulds, shaped kneelers, and end stacks. This property is noted in the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study Group Report No 286 from 1977.
