Description
The Fawcett Memorial is a tombstone located approximately 14 metres west of the tower of the Church of St Peter and St Felix. It dates from around 1804 and is made of ashlar sandstone. The memorial features a slab with a scrolled top, adorned with an acanthus-leaf sunburst in the central scroll, which is flanked by paterae in the side scrolls. The inscription commemorates John Fawcett, who died in 1804 at the age of 94. He was a soldier in the Fourth or King's Own Regiment of Foot and fought at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The stone was erected by the Order of the Blue and Orange.
