Description

The Church of St Andrew is a church built in 1847 by Anthony Salvin, constructed from squared coursed stone with an ashlar finish and a graduated stone slate roof. It features a west tower, a nave with a north aisle, a south porch, and a chancel, all designed in a neo-Norman style. The three-stage tower has clasping buttresses, a round-arched light on the second stage, and a belfry window with two round-arched lights and columns topped with cushion capitals, all set under a larger round arch. The tower is adorned with a Lombard frieze and has a hipped pyramidal roof.

The nave consists of three bays, with a plinth and clasping half-height buttresses. It has round-arched one-light windows with a sill band. The gabled porch features a Norman-style doorway, with an inner doorway that includes dogtooth work and a gable cross. The north aisle has similar windows. The chancel comprises two bays, with a central priests' doorway flanked by one-light arched windows, all featuring dogtooth work, a sill band, and a corbelled cornice topped with a gable cross. The east end includes two single-light arched windows and a circular window above with radiating tracery.

Inside, the church has a three-bay north arcade supported by round columns with scalloped capitals, which hold moulded round arches. The chancel arch is supported by three-columned half piers with moulded capitals and a moulded arch. The king-post roof is supported by corbels with carved faces. There is also a neo-Norman arched pulpit and reading desk.
