Description
The Church of St Matthew is a Grade II listed church built in 1868 by C G Wray. It is constructed of coursed sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof. The church includes a west tower, a nave with a north aisle, a chancel with a north vestry, and a south porch.
The tower has three storeys and is adorned with a three-light Decorated west window, which is situated above a clock. There is a projecting stair turret on the south-east corner, and small lancet windows on the north and south sides of the ringing chamber. The belfry openings are two-light with five-cusped heads and a cinquefoil above. The gabled south porch adds to the entrance's character.
The nave consists of four bays, which are divided by stepped buttresses, and features two-light windows with reticulated quatrefoils. The chancel has two bays and is highlighted by a five-light Decorated east window. Inside, the church has a four-bay arcade supported by circular columns and double-chamfered arches, and the nave is topped with a hammerbeam roof.
