Description

This is an early 17th century house, located on the north side of Market Place in Masham, and later subdivided into two dwellings around 2005. The building is constructed of coursed rubble stone with ashlar dressings and has a graduated stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with five bays. A plinth runs along the base, and quoins define the corners. The left bay contains a 20th century glazed door within a chamfered surround, with a four-pane sash window to its left. The fourth bay also features a 20th century glazed door in a moulded, chamfered surround, and to the right of this door is a small, blocked chamfered opening. The third and fifth bays have three-light windows with eight-pane sashes and moulded, chamfered surrounds. On the first floor, a moulded band runs horizontally. The first bay contains a three-light window with sashes and a moulded, chamfered surround, where the mullions have been removed. The second bay has a single-light, chamfered window. The third and fifth bays match those on the ground floor. The fourth bay has a two-light, chamfered mullion window with casements. Shaped kneelers appear at the eaves, topped with a stone coping. An end stack is present to the left, and a renewed brick stack exists on the ridge.
