Description

The property comprises a farmhouse with an attached outbuilding, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. Constructed of coursed gritstone, it features graduated stone slate roofs. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays, with long and short quoins. A 20th-century board door is positioned between windows to the right, while a glazed door in a plain surround sits between windows to the left. The left and central ground-floor windows have paired sashes with glazing bars in plain surrounds; a square, 16-pane sash in a plain surround is located to the right. The first-floor windows consist of a pair of 2-light flat-faced mullion windows on the left and centre, with a square sash window as on the ground floor to the right. A blocked circular window is set above the left-hand door. Ashlar coping and shaped kneelers are present, along with external stacks at both gables – the left gable stack is corniced, and another corniced stack rises from the ridge above the right-hand door. The interior remains uninspected. To the right and set back, a lower, two-storey range features a plank door with a heavy chamfered stone lintel. It also includes three-light chamfered windows on the ground and first floors, far right and far left. A central first-floor door is accessed by a flight of stone steps. The farm was owned by Mr Alfred Rowntree in the late 19th century and was known for its cheese production.
