Description

These two cottages, originally listed as Rectory Cottage, date from the mid-18th century. They are constructed of coursed gritstone with ashlar detailing and a stone slate roof. The cottages are two storeys high and comprise five bays. Prominent quoins emphasize the corners. A round-headed, half-glazed door is set within a round-arched opening surrounded by a Gibbs surround in the fourth bay. To the left of this door, a half-glazed door replaces a former window opening. All window openings have plain sills and lintels, incorporating stressed keystones and modern glazing bars. A recessed, squared panel above the door is also framed by a Gibbs surround. An ashlar band runs along the first-floor level, and the gables feature ashlar kneelers with a cyma reversa moulding and copings. Ashlar stacks are located at the centre of the ridge and at the right gable.
