Description

Saint Mary’s Cottage is a late 18th-century house, with later alterations and extensions, located on Hagg Side Lane in Ebberston. The front is constructed of herringbone-tooled sandstone, while the sides and rear are of sandstone rubble, with herringbone-tooled quoins. The roof is covered in cast tiles, and there are rebuilt brick stacks. The house has a central stairhall plan and is one and a half rooms deep, with a rear service wing added at a later date. The symmetrical front has two storeys and three windows. The central door is a 20th-century six-panel design, and the windows are 20th-century replacements with glazing bars and stone sills. Raised keyblock lintels are above all window and door openings. A cavetto moulded eaves course runs along the top of the building, and the gables have coping stones and shaped kneelers. The building has end stacks.
