PLOMPTON PLOMPTON HALL Wall attached to south of Plompton Hall Stables, west range

GV II

Wall. c1760. Probably part of stables scheme by John Carr for Daniel Lascelles. Ashlar. Approximately 2.5 metres high and 30 metres long. Slight plinth, with pier at north end and 6 plain pilasters. Deep cornice to pier, ball finial missing, flat coping to wall. Doorway with keyed Lintel to right of pier. Southern stretch of walling removed to accommodate drive to Plompton hall. A corresponding stretch of walling to the north of the west (entrance) range of the Plompton Hall stables separately listed. The surviving lengths of walling suggest that the main approach to the stables, from the west, was flanked by high walls with end piers and probably ball finials above the pilasters.
