Description

Spen House Farmhouse and attached barn dates to 1761. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The building has a gabled coped verge with kneelers. The farmhouse and barn are combined into a single range with a continuous roof. The two-storey farmhouse has three bays, and to the right is a broad gabled single-storey porch and wash-house, both quoined. The farmhouse has a doorway with a plain stone surround, and windows: one to the ground floor and three above, all with four recessed square mullions. The barn has a doorway near the corner with a heavy lintel, and a small, flat-headed cart entry above which is a tablet inscribed "MD" with a partly legible date. The interior was not inspected.
