Description
1 Cliff Street is an early 19th-century house that stands two storeys tall with two bays and a tall basement. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with rendered gables. The roof is modern, covered with pantiles, featuring plain eaves and brick capping on the raised gables. There is a rendered stack on the right side.
In front of the basement, there is a well with a stone wall facing the road, which is bridged by steps and a landing that has an iron railing leading to the front door. This wall retains remnants of a foot scraper. The front door is a modern four-panel design with an earlier timber surround and a flat stone lintel above. The window above the door is an 8-over-8 pane sliding sash with a wedge lintel. The bay on the right features slightly bowed 12-over-12 pane sash windows on both floors, although these windows appear to be modern timber replacements. There is also a basement door and window.
The front elevation was inspected externally only, and the interiors were not examined. The building is designated at Grade II due to its early 19th-century date, the craftsmanship evident in the use of Flemish bond brickwork, and its group value with other listed properties on Cliff Street.
