Description
The Judge's Box is a small rectangular building located at the Old Race Course, dating from 1814. It is constructed in rough ashlar and consists of one storey above a battered semi-basement. The building features a shallow stone slate pyramid roof with a central chimney. The north face has a bow window spanning both storeys, along with a plain frieze, while the other faces each contain a window. Inside, there is a small fireplace on each floor, and the eaves are designed in an Etruscan style. The Judge's Box, along with the Old Grand Stand, a smaller stand to the south, and Moor Cottage, create a cohesive visual group. An iron plaque on the building reads, "Erected 1814/W S Goodburne Esq/Mayor," although it is noted to be in poor repair at the time of the survey.
