Description
Dunkirk is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a 19th-century roof replacement. It’s constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high and comprises three bays, with a rear outshut. The corners are emphasised by quoins. A central four-panel door is set within quoined jambs, and is flanked by three-light recessed chamfered mullion windows, each containing a central sash. The upper windows are smaller than those on the ground floor. Centrally on the first floor is an oval chamfered window set within a solid stone surround. A central ridge stack has been rebuilt in its upper portion. Inside, the large fireplace in the room on the right-hand side features moulded brackets supporting the lintel. The remaining rooms were not inspected during a recent survey. At the rear, an original outshut on the right is lit by two two-light recessed chamfered mullion windows, one of which is missing its mullion. An added outshut features a central, narrow, blocked window.
