Description

This is an early 19th century cottage row, comprising numbers 42 to 48 on the South Side of Westgate. The buildings are primarily of coursed stone construction, with a pantile roof punctuated by five brick stacks. Number 46 has a brick facade. Numbers 42 to 44 each feature a single window and a four-panel door. A keystone is present above the ground floor window and door of number 44. Number 45 has two modern windows above two modern bowed windows and a modern glazed door, with a stone lintel above the door. Number 46's brick facade incorporates a modern window with glazing bars, beneath a wooden lintel which also covers a modern door. It also has a single sliding sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor. Number 47 contains a similar window to the first floor, and a three-light sliding sash window with a wooden lintel on the ground floor, along with a four-panel door and wooden lintel. Number 48 has two windows without glazing bars, each with a wooden lintel. The ground floor window is modern, with three lights under a cement lintel. The door at number 48 is of four fielded panels with a rectangular fanlight, and has a wooden lintel.

Numbers 1 to 22, 23A and 23B, numbers 24 to 29, a storage building to the left of numbers 28 and 29, numbers 30 to 37, 37A and numbers 38 to 69 form a group. Within this group, numbers 11 and 12, numbers 17 to 19, the storage building to the left of numbers 28 and 29, numbers 37, 37A, numbers 38 and 39, numbers 41 and numbers 65 to 69 are of local interest. Numbers 1 to 4 also constitute a group with the adjacent Wesleyan Day School.
