Description
40 Westgate is an 18th-century low building with two storeys, constructed from coursed stone and topped with a modern cement pantile roof. It features three irregularly spaced windows on the upper floor, which are sliding sashes without glazing bars and have wooden lintels. The ground floor windows are similar in style. The entrance has a plain modern door with a wooden lintel.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 22 (consecutive), 23A and 23B, Nos 24 to 29 (consecutive), storage premises to the left of Nos 28 and 29, and Nos 30 to 37 (consecutive), along with 37A and Nos 38 to 69 (consecutive). Notable buildings within this group include Nos 11 and 12, 17 to 19 (consecutive), storage premises to the left of 28 and 29, 37, 37A, 38 and 39, 41, and 65 to 69, which are of local interest.
