Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory, now a house, built around 1704 and extended around 1840, with some minor alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick, which is rendered and colour-washed, and features four rendered chimney stacks. It has a hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves and is designed in an H-plan layout, comprising two storeys with a three-storey north wing.

The east entrance front has a recessed centre that includes a central porch with a pediment and double glazed doors with an overlight. On either side of the porch are single 12-pane sash windows, and above is an oval window flanked by single 9-pane sashes. The projecting left wing features a basement window and a 12-pane sash window on each floor. The projecting right wing has two 8-pane sash windows and a single 12-pane sash window above on each upper floor.

The south front features a central 15-pane sash window flanked by single canted bay windows with plate glass sashes, and above are three 12-pane sashes. The west front has a central doorway with a glazed door and a pedimented surround. To the left is a pair of 8-pane sash windows, and to the right is a single 15-pane sash window, with three 12-pane sashes above. The projecting left wing has a single 12-pane sash window on each floor, while the right wing has two 12-pane sashes on each floor.

Inside, there is a two-storey central panelled hall with a stick baluster staircase. The back staircase also features a stick baluster design with turned newels. The drawing room includes modern plasterwork and a late 18th-century fireplace. The morning room has a fire grate and surround added by Andrews. Throughout the building, there are original six-panel doors with moulded surrounds.
