Description
Low Wathcote is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 16th century to the early 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, along with a later two-storey extension at the rear left and a rear entry. The corners of the structure are marked by quoins, and the windows have chamfered surrounds.
On the ground floor, there are sash windows with glazing bars set in surrounds that are raised from former 2-light mullion windows, a 20th-century casement window in the fourth bay, and a fifth window located centrally below the fourth and fifth first-floor bays. The first floor contains 6-pane sashes in surrounds that were previously part of 2-light mullion windows. The building is topped with ashlar copings and has stacks at both ends, as well as a brick stack situated between the third and fourth bays.
At the rear, there is a central 6-panel door beneath a 3-pane overlight, along with a vent on the second floor. The left return features single-light vents, with two on each of the three floors. The right return has an external stack and blocked vents. Historically, this farmhouse was part of the grange of Easby Abbey.
