Description
Sandford House is a villa, now divided into two houses, built in the early 19th century and around 1868 for the Harrison family. It features a combination of ashlar and coursed rubble with a felt roof, which was formerly leaded. The main block, dating from around 1868, faces the earlier block that has been converted into a service range.
The building is two stories high with five bays. The entrance front is made of ashlar and includes a plinth and corner pilasters that support an entablature with a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The central entrance consists of an 8-panel door beneath an overlight, set within a Doric portico that also has a blocking course. To the left of the entrance, there is a projecting square bay featuring a 3-light window and a flat roof. The other windows are sash types set in architraves. The roof has a flat design and features an 8-chimney stack rising from its center. The side elevations and the earlier range, which is now a separate house, are constructed of coursed rubble. A rainwater pipe that was dated 1868 has been removed from the main house.
