Description

Moulterbeck Farmhouse is a farmhouse and former barn dating from the mid- to late 17th century, with alterations from the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rubble stone with stone dressings, and has a slate roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with five bays and a projecting two-storey centre bay under a catslide roof. A central entrance bay was added in the 20th century, featuring a three-light chamfered mullioned window on the upper floor; the windows are sashes without glazing bars and fixed lights. To the left of the projecting bay is a former 18th-century waggon entrance, originally segmental-headed, partly blocked for a door, and now fully blocked. To the right of the projecting bay is a former entrance with a moulded lintel, now partly blocked and containing a 17th-century mullion inserted to create a window, alongside 20th-century casements. On the left-hand side of the farmhouse is a ground-floor three-light chamfered mullioned window with fixed lights; a similar window is situated within the right-hand bay at ground floor level. Between the first two bays, a single-light chamfered window with a chamfered, segment-headed lintel and a fixed light is located on the upper floor. The two right-hand bays contain a two-light and a three-light chamfered window respectively, both featuring 20th-century casements. Ridge stacks are located to the left of the centre and in the right-hand gable end. A projecting rear wing features a three-light and a two-light double chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor and a similar three-light window on the upper floor. Inside, the front right-hand room contains an 18th-century stone fireplace with moulded impost blocks.
