Description
Skip Bridge carries Old York Road over the River Nidd and dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar and features three round arches with rounded cut-waters against two central piers, which rise to form pedestrian retreats at road level. There are square-section pilasters on the two outer piers that extend up to the coping level. A projecting band is present at the level of the road surface, and the bridge has a shallow pointed coping. Although a modern structure has replaced it downstream, the old road now functions as a lay-by. The eastern half of the bridge is located in the parish of Wilstrop, while it was previously listed in the parish of Green Hammerton.
