Description
This is an early to mid-19th century terrace of shops and houses, located on Bar Street. Numbers 8, 10, and 12 were built slightly later than the rest of the terrace and have an additional third floor. The buildings are constructed of red brick with a wooden eaves band and cornice. Each house has a wide, segmental bow window of three lights to the upper floors, featuring intact sash windows with glazing bars. These bows are finished with plastered aprons and an entablature above the window heads. Numbers 8 and 10 each have three round-headed windows on the third floor, flanked by shaped brackets supporting flat eaves. Numbers 8, 10, and 12 also each have an additional sash window to the side of the bow window, extending up to the second floor. The ground floor fronts are designed as a continuous group of shops, each with large eight-pane windows and flanking four-panel doors, all framed by Corinthian pilasters with entablature over. Numbers 8 to 24 form a visually cohesive group.
