Description

Stamford House is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is located on The Green in Green Hammerton. The house is constructed of brown and cream brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a blue slate roof. It has two storeys and a double-pile plan with three bays. The central entrance features a four-panel door, the upper two panels being glazed, set within a simple doorcase with a shallow cornice. The ground floor has 16-pane sash windows on either side of the door, with a narrower sash window with glazing bars to the first floor centre. Chimneys are located at the ends of the building. A lean-to extension, formerly stables, adjoins the north side, and is not considered to be of particular architectural interest. A low brick wall with a stone coping and iron railings runs along the front. The railings and gate bars have flower-shaped tops. The gate piers are made of cast iron, decorated with flower and scroll motifs.
