Description

Cliff Cottage is a house located on Cliff Road in Sinnington, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with a later extension. The building is constructed from rubble sandy limestone and features tooled quoins. It has a pantile roof with brick stacks. Originally designed as a single cell with a direct-entry plan, it has since been extended. The front of the house is two stories high with two windows, and there is a one-bay, two-story extension set back to the right. A 20th-century gabled porch is located in the right bay of the main house, with a plank door inside. To the left, there is an enlarged two-light, 12-pane casement window, and the first floor has two-light, large-pane casements. The gables are coped, and shaped kneelers are present. There is an end stack on the left and a right stack as well. The windows in the extension are from the 20th century and have timber lintels. At the rear, there is a two-light, 12-pane horizontal-sliding sash window on the first floor. Inside, the main ground-floor room features a chamfered beam with run-out stops and chamfered square-section joists. The fireplace lintel is supported by cyma-moulded corbels.
