Description

Bridge Farmhouse, also known as The Post Office, is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, likely with earlier origins, and features alterations and an extension from the late 18th century. It is constructed of dressed sandstone on a chamfered plinth, with quoins, while the right side is rendered. The roof is made of pantiles and has brick stacks. The building has a central stairhall plan, with a parallel rear wing added.

The front elevation is two stories high with three windows. It features a four-panel door with a divided overlight set in a plain surround with a shaped, keyed lintel. The ground floor has 16-pane sash windows, while the first floor has 12-pane sashes, all in painted plain surrounds with key-blocks. The gables are coped, and there are shaped kneelers. The M-shaped roof has end stacks on both ranges.

At the rear, all windows are topped with long, keyed lintels. The roof valley on the returns is concealed by a plain parapet. Inside, there is a closed-string, straight staircase with tapered, turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and a square newel. The balustrade encloses the stairwell on the first floor. The entrance hall is divided by a radial-glazed and panelled door in a round-arched architrave. A ground-floor room to the left of the door features a massive chamfered spine beam with run-out stops, while other spine and cross beams throughout the house are now boxed. The house also served as The Grapes Inn at one time.
