Description
East Witton Mill is a corn watermill dated 'W + W 1817' on the quoin. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with a stone slate roof and has three storeys plus a basement. The building features two second-floor windows and quoins, with openings that have deep ashlar sills and lintels. On the ground and first floors, there are two-leaved board doors to the left, and to the right on the ground floor, there is a fixed-light window with glazing bars. The second floor has part-glazed, part-shuttered windows, and there is a pigeoncote in the gable. To the left, there is a lower two-storey range at right angles, which has a four-pane ground-floor window and a left end stack. There is also a roofless added lean-to wheelhouse on the right. Inside, there is one pair of millstones on the ground floor, and an inscription refers to William Wellock, the miller in the late 18th century to early 19th century. The mill was disused at the time of the re-survey.
