Description
Violet Grange is a farmhouse that underwent remodelling in the mid to late 18th century, although it incorporates elements of an earlier building. The structure is built from rubble and features a roof made of pantiles and artificial stone slates. It stands two storeys high with a rear outshut and has four first-floor windows. The building has quoins at both ends and on the second storey to the right of the second window. In the second bay, there is a part-glazed board door set in an ashlar surround, with a small 8-pane window above it, also in an ashlar surround. The other windows are side-sliding sashes with three lights, framed by ashlar surrounds that include keystones. The eaves are brick stepped, and the lowest courses of the roof are made of stone slates. The raised verges rise from stepped stones that form kneelers. There are brick stacks located at the ends and between the second and third bays. On the left side of the building, there is a steep roofline of a single-storey structure that forms the left half of the building before the present formal elevation. Inside, there are some old fielded panel doors dating from around 1700, along with panelled window shutters. A staircase is located in the rear outshut towards the centre of the right-hand half of the building.
