Description
Rakehead Farmhouse and the adjoining cottage, originally listed as Rakehead Farmhouse, is a house and granary that has been converted into one dwelling. The building features a lintel dated 1685 above the cross-passage door and has undergone later additions and alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble with stucco quoins at the south end and has a wet-dashed finish on the south return. The roof is covered with graduated stone flags and includes outshuts at the rear, with kneelers at the north end of the cottage.
The structure is two storeys high. The original five-bay house has a central part-glazed door set in a chamfered surround with a four-centred head. On either side of the door are mullioned three-light windows, with a fire window located to the far left. The first floor features three mullioned two-light windows and two small openings that are now blocked, positioned below the eaves. The cross-passage door on the right has a false four-centred head, with a fire window above it.
The adjoining cottage at the north end, which shares the same roof, is of slightly later construction and was empty in 1983. It has a fire window to the left and two blocked two-light windows on each floor, with the ground floor left window being glazed. The cottage also features a part-glazed door at the centre of the ground floor. The north gable has two openings, one of which has been subdivided to serve as a dovecote. Additionally, a granary was added at the south end, which includes a blocked wagon door and a single 20th-century casement window inserted on each floor.
