Description

This is a row of five houses, now largely shops with residential accommodation above, built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of ashlar stone with ashlar detailing, and have a slate roof, with three chimney stacks. They are arranged with a slightly asymmetrical five-bay facade, featuring giant Doric pilasters. The entablature of these pilasters forms a projecting eaves cornice, and the pilaster capitals are adorned with discs. Most windows are sash windows with simple ashlar surrounds. The doorways have plain stone surrounds, although the doors at numbers 5 and 7 are modern. Numbers 9 and 11 have original six-panel doors, with the upper four panels glazed. The ground floors have been converted into shops, but numbers 5 and 11 retain their original pairs of sash windows at ground floor level.
