Description
Brackenber Hall and the adjoining garage are two houses, now functioning as a house and garage, built in the 17th century. They are constructed from coursed, squared rubble with quoins. The garage features a later graduated slate roof, with the original steeply-pitched gable line visible on the west side of the house. The house has a graduated stone-flagged roof with stone copings and kneelers, and a stair outshut at the rear. The end chimneys have replaced a central hearth.
The two-storey garage has a large 20th-century opening and a plank door, with a blocked original three-light mullioned window between it and a similar two-light window at the rear. Inside, there is a blocked fireplace with a chamfered surround against the east wall. The house is two storeys with attics and has five bays. It features an original studded wooden door within an architrave, with a three-light window to the left and a segment-headed fire window, along with one three-light and one two-light window to the right.
On the first floor, there is a central fire window flanked by two two-light windows on either side, with smaller similar windows in the attic. The ground floor windows and the three middle first-floor windows are set in architraves, while the others have plain stone surrounds; all except the fire windows are mullioned. A continuous hood-mould runs over the ground floor, rising above the door, with a string course above the first floor.
Internally, original panelled doors and stop-chamfered beams are present throughout. The dog-leg stair features a closed string with turned balusters, square newels topped with ball finials, and a moulded handrail. An original wooden spiral stair leads from the first floor to the attic. The buildings adjoining the east end of the house are not included in the listing.
