Description

East Farmhouse, with an adjoining barn range and pigsty, is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The barn range consists of two builds; the south end is probably contemporary with the house and was later connected by infilling. The pigsty likely dates from the 19th century. The structure is made of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and features graduated slate roofs, complete with stone copings and kneelers on both the house and barn.

The building has an 'H'-shaped plan and is two storeys high, except for the pigsty. The three-bay house has a plank door on the side of the rear wing. The front elevation displays two 2-light windows on each floor, although these were originally 3-light windows with a mullion removed from each. There is also a blocked 2-light window in the centre of the ground floor. All the casements are set in chamfered stone surrounds with flat mullions, and there are stone end chimneys.

The single-bay barn infill to the left features a full-height wagon door at the front and a winnowing door at the rear, both of which are segment-headed. The original barn has a winnowing door at the front (inside a late 20th-century lean-to) and a large wagon door at the rear, with vent slits on either side. The single-storey pigsty, which adjoins the rear wing of the house at a right angle, has two plank doors and a blocked, segment-headed feeding hole between them. The late 20th-century lean-to is not of interest.
