Description

Lowstreet Cottage is a farmhouse dating to 1728, with alterations from the 19th century. It is constructed of red sandstone rubble with flush quoins, and has a graduated greenslate roof with rebuilt chimney stacks of red sandstone. The original plan was of three bays, and it is two storeys high. The central entrance has a 20th-century door set within an 18th-century stone surround, beneath a shaped datestone. Sash windows are set in 19th-century stone surrounds, and a fire window has been blocked on the right-hand side. The right return wall features a small, blocked 18th-century opening. A rear extension contains a plank door, sash windows with glazing bars in stone surrounds, and a round-headed stair window. Adjoining farm buildings are not considered to be of historic interest.
