Description

Byrnes Monument is a roadside monument made of red sandstone, inscribed with the word "RESTORED 1911." It features a recessed plaque that reads, "HERE CONSTABLE JOSEPH BYRNES FELL ON THE NIGHT OF OCTOBER 29 1885, SHOT BY THE THREE NETHERBY BURGLARS WHOM HE SINGLE HANDED ENDEAVOURED TO ARREST." This plaque is set within a chamfered surround and is topped by a shaped pediment.
