Description
Plumpton Old Hall is a house dating from the late 18th century. It features cement render over red sandstone rubble walls with raised quoins, and has a graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and kneelers, as well as banded red sandstone chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with a contemporary two-bay extension at the rear forming an L-shape under a common roof.
The central entrance has a 20th-century door set within a pedimented doorcase that includes rusticated pilasters. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, framed by raised stone surrounds. To the left of the entrance is a large round-headed staircase window, while the right ground-floor windows have been blocked and replaced by an early 20th-century sandstone canted bay window. At the rear, there is an off-centre top-glazed panelled door in a pedimented pilaster doorcase, with sash windows, one of which is double in the extension. The lower extensions are noted as not being of interest.
