Description
The Old Vicarage is a private house that was originally built as a vicarage in the early 19th century. It is constructed from snecked pink sandstone ashlar with V-jointed quoins. The building features a hipped roof made of graduated greenslate, adorned with eaves modillions and banded ashlar chimney stacks. It stands two storeys high and has three bays. The entrance includes a panelled door with an overlight set within a pilastered doorcase. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, framed by raised stone surrounds. The left side of the building has a slate-hung wall, while the right side also features sash windows with glazing bars, similar to those at the front. The Old Vicarage replaced an earlier vicarage that is now known as Sowerby Hall, and it is listed for its group value with that building.
