Description
Brackenber Farmhouse and the adjoining byres consist of three buildings constructed in 1698, 1742, and 1874. They are made of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and feature graduated slate roofs with stone chimneys at the mid and end points. The west end of the byres has stone coping and kneelers. The original two-storey, two-bay farmhouse shares a roof with the byres. To the right of the farmhouse, there is a part-glazed door with an initialled and dated lintel reading "I.S. E.S. 1698," which may be reused. To the left of the door, there is a sash window in a stone surround, along with two additional sash windows above, all of which were originally mullioned. The byres have two doors and three windows on the ground floor, with a dated inscription in a moulded frame above that reads "John Spedding 1742." There is also a taller two-storey, two-bay house extension at the east end, which has panels inscribed with "J.J.W." and "AD 1874." Each floor of this extension features two sash windows with glazing bars and a continuous hoodmould over the ground floor. A later byre adjoining the east end is not included in this description.
