Description

Winton Hall is a house, initially built in 1665, with alterations and extensions in the 18th century, incorporating a former granary. The house is constructed of rubble stone, while the granary is of rendered rubble with a ground-floor sill band. Both have graduated stone-flagged roofs and stone chimneys. The house has two storeys. The south elevation’s porch was formerly a stair wing (now reduced in height) and features a semicircular-headed, chamfered door surround; the original plank inner door retains metal studs and a draw-bar. A single, 3-light 18th-century window in a stone surround is present on each floor of the left side of the south elevation. The north elevation preserves a 17th-century mullioned and transomed 5-light window, with the remains of blocked 2-light windows also visible. The west elevation of the former granary features an 18th-century French window within a stone surround, distinguished by projecting imposts and a keystone to the semicircular head. A paired sash window is located above.
