Description

Dykelands is a house, likely built in 1834 by George Webster. It features a roughcast exterior with limestone dressings and a slate roof, designed in a cottage ornee style with Gothic details. The building stands two stories high and has four bays. The facade includes overhanging eaves supported by timber brackets with decorative pendant bosses, and gables adorned with pierced and carved barge-boards.

The windows are timber casements with leaded glass, featuring pointed heads and transoms on the ground floor. The first and second bays have square bay windows with three lights; the left bay has a hipped slate roof with a pierced timber valance and pendants, while the right bay has a cornice with brattishing. The left-hand window on the first floor has a trefoiled head beneath a gable, and above the third bay, there is another gable with a window consisting of three stepped lights.

The open gabled timber porch, located in the third bay, is supported by four columns and features a central Tudor arch flanked by pointed arches, with plain barge-boards. The chimneys, positioned on the gables and between the first and second bays, have caps with clustered octagonal shafts.

Inside, the ground floor includes panelled window reveals, raised and fielded panel doors, and a staircase with a closed string, slim turned balusters, and an octagonal newel post. Above a doorway under the stairs leading to the rear wing, there is a glazed Gothic screen. The fireplace surrounds were renewed in the mid-20th century.
