Description
The walls, gate piers, and railings adjoining Lowther Lodge were built in 1877 by James Mawson for the Earl of Lonsdale. They form the north entrance to Lowther Park. The structure features calciferous ashlar piers and walls, complemented by cast iron railings. There are two low L-shaped walls next to the Lodge. The entrance at the road has hexagonal piers with shaped caps, while a pedestrian gate features a square angle pier. The low wall sits on a chamfered plinth with moulded coping beneath the patterned cast iron railings. To the right, there is another entrance that leads to a track, which also has hexagonal piers with pyramidal caps. The 20th-century wrought iron gates are not of interest. This listing is noted for its group value with the adjoining lodge.
