Description
No 2 (Lowther Gardens) is an 18th-century building located on the west side of Devonshire Street. It is constructed of red sandstone and features quoins and an eaves cornice. The building stands three storeys tall and is adorned with bands. It has a steeply pitched slate roof and three 12-paned sash windows on each upper storey, all set within plain stone architraves.
The ground floor showcases a late 18th-century Georgian shop front, which includes a central set of double doors with a traceried fanlight above, flanked by curved windows with small panes. The shop front is enhanced by panelled wood Ionic pilasters, a cornice, a glazed frieze above the windows, and a full fascia and cornice that extends over the entire ground floor. To the left, there is a small moulded doorway leading to a book yard.
