Description
The Castle Hotel and Inn is a hotel dating from the late 18th century, featuring later additions and alterations. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone blocks with rusticated quoins on a plinth and has a cornice. The building has a graduated slate roof with stone copings and end chimneys. It is symmetrical, with three storeys and five bays. The central entrance consists of a panelled door situated under an open flat-roofed porch supported by Tuscan columns. There are two sash windows on either side of the entrance and five sash windows above, all featuring glazing bars within stone surrounds.
At the rear, there was originally a two-storey range of coach houses and stables, which has been converted into additional rooms in 1983. The inn, which adjoins the eastern end of the hotel, is built from wet-dashed rubble and has a stone-flagged roof with a stone end chimney. It is two storeys high and has two bays, with a panelled door to the left and a 20th-century canted bay window to the right, along with two sash windows with glazing bars above.
