Description

Castle Bank House is a late 18th-century red sandstone ashlar building located in Appleby in Westmorland. The main part of the house is two storeys high and features a roughly central doorway with a moulded architrave and pediment. To the left is a two-storey, five-sided bay window with five lights per storey, the flanking lights being smaller than those facing the front. A single light window sits above the door. To the right, and slightly set back, is a later extension with one window per storey. Both sections of the building have an eaves cornice and long-and-short quoins. Two rainwater heads are present on the older block; one is dated 1792, and the other bears the initials IHM. A rainwater head in the later extension features a heraldic beast.
